Wrong labels, bad lot codes, missing seals.

On a supplement bottling line, the label and the lot code are the first things a customer or an auditor reads.

What does JM Automated Solutions inspect on supplement lines?

JM Automated Solutions builds camera inspection stations for dietary supplement and nutraceutical bottling and packaging lines. A station checks each bottle for the wrong label, a missing or misprinted lot and expiry code, a missing neck band, a cocked or missing cap, a missing desiccant and a low fill, rejects it, and logs the image with the lot. Based in Carlsbad, we work on supplement lines across North County San Diego, San Diego County and Southern California. Vision inspection supports your quality program; it does not replace FDA-mandated testing.

On the line

What goes wrong on a supplement line?

Wrong label on the bottle

The label barcode and the printed text are read and checked against the SKU on every bottle. A label from the last run, or a label for a different count or flavor, stops at the reject.

Lot and expiry code missing or misprinted

OCR reads the lot and expiry code on the label, the bottle or the carton and matches it to the batch. A missing, smeared or wrong code is rejected with its image.

Where this fits: Barcode reading and OCR

Missing neck band or seal

The station checks that the neck band or shrink band is there and seated. The induction liner is checked before the cap goes on, where the camera can see it.

Where this fits: Single-camera station

Cocked, high or missing caps

Cap presence, height and tilt are checked on every bottle after the capper, so a loose cap is caught before the case packer.

Where this fits: Three-camera station

Desiccant or cotton is missing

The station confirms the desiccant and the cotton are present, and only once, before the cap. The same check runs on pharmaceutical bottles.

Where this fits: Single-camera station

Low fill or short count

Fill level in clear bottles is checked at line speed. For tablet and capsule counts, tell us how your counter works and we check whether a camera can confirm the count at that step.

Where this fits: Fill-level station

Records that cannot show why

Every reject is logged with the image, the reason and the time. The records are designed for use in a 21 CFR Part 111 quality program and support the batch record review your team runs.

Where this fits: Traceability

Inspection jobs

Which inspection jobs fit a supplement line?

Which article covers a supplement inspection job?

Label verification at the labeler exit walks through checking each label as it leaves the labeler, from the camera and the lighting to the record that goes with each reject.
